Welcome
This is an Australian webpage with a simple purpose. We're encouraging people to welcome refugees instead of rejecting them. We want to move talk about immigration away from ignorance and name calling, to balance and understanding.
A number of links on this website provide valuable information about people who are refugees and the way we can respond as an Australian community. These links give some interesting facts and stories, as well as ways you could get involved in helping people who are very vulnerable. The fact sheets provided by GetUp or the Edmund Rice Centre for Social Justice are a good place to start, and so are the stories on the SBS "How far we've come" website.
We encourage you to read this information and think about it, and even yarn with your mates about it. We also encourage you to consider that behind every headline, every slogan and every statistic is a real person, and that when we discuss people who are or have been refugees, we are talking about people with real lives and stories and loved ones of their own.
Cheers!
